Steve Irwin vessel returns from Great Australian Bight into Port Adelaide, encountering a place rich in beauty and biodiversity, worthy of Word Heritage status

Today the Steve Irwin vessel arrived into Port Adelaide as part of Sea Shepherd's Operation Jeedara, and the Great Australian Bight Alliance. This is the first time a Sea Shepherd vessel has come into port in South Australia. Operation Jeedara's mission is to showcase the beauty of the Bight, a place rich in beauty and biodiversity, to show what we would all loose if BP were allowed to drill for oil and cause a spill in waters deeper, rougher and more remote than the Gulf of Mexico.

BOB BROWN FOUNDATION JOINS GREAT AUSTRALIAN BIGHT ALLIANCE TO FIGHT OFF OIL RIG

The Bob Brown Foundation has joined a national alliance of environment organisations to fight off the impending arrival of the world's biggest oil rig in the Great Australian Bight. The rig, currently nearing completion in South Korea, is due in the Bight in October after which BP intends to drill thousands of metres under the 2000 metres deep Bight.

Operation Toxic Gulf

Senate to probe BP's Plans for Great Australian Bight

The Senate will shine a much-needed spotlight on BP's plans to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight after it voted for an inquiry into the matter. The inquiry will report back by May 12.

The Senate's Environment and Communications References Committee will look into the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of BP's planned exploratory oil drilling project and any future oil or gas production in the Great Australian Bight.
