Meet Pete

Peter Owen is the director of The Wilderness Society South Australia and a past winner of the South Australian of the Year (Environment).

Over the last decade, The Wilderness Society South Australia has protected vast areas of land and seascape across the Great Australian Bight. These areas include the Nullarbor Plain, Offshore Islands and the declaration of South Australia's 19 marine parks—Australia's first representative marine park network outside the Great Barrier Reef.

In 2013, Pete and the team started work on a campaign to stop BP and other Big Oil companies expanding the fossil fuel industry into the Bight, threatening one of the planet’s most significant wilderness areas and a liveable climate.
